This season, the high heel is back in fashion (is it ever really out of fashion though?), with Sky-High heels being the key to the hottest look. All of the big designer labels are in on the act, but be aware that most of these shoes are horrendously impractical, not to mention many designer brands being incredibly ugly.

You can get in on the high heel craze without breaking the bank, or indeed your neck, by exploring what’s on offer on the High street.

The designs are rather more sedate, and thus will actually go with your wardrobe. After all, the last thing you need is to have your whole outfit ruined by wearing brightly coloured torture devices on your feet.

Many regular shops carry wonderful ranges of similar extra-high shoes at affordable prices. Where designer shoes tend to be intricately detailed and ornate, they don’t really allow much room to actually walk or be anywhere near comfortable. That said, there are a number of great alternatives in everyday outlets that will help you achieve that designer look at a fraction of the cost. But what is the look this season? Well, although sky-high heels are definitely one of the key parts of the look (remember, if your instep isn’t strained, they’re not high enough!), that’s not all of it. Look for ornateness – bold patterns like Matthew Williamson’s African-inspired uppers, two-tone colours like Givenchy’s mustard and white combination, and charms or spiral heels.
