Why the world needs a reunion of the original Sugababes
January 2, 2010 by Clark
We want the original Sugababes back. Now that the group calling themselves the Sugababes has none of the original members in it, the group has lost that last link with what made them so interesting in the first place.
When the group first hit the music scene back in 2000 with the unforgettable ‘Overload’ single, we were introduced to three girls with great voices who hadn’t been shoved into some gold hotpants and told to gyrate.
The sound of the ‘One Touch’ album was ahead of its time and wouldn’t sound out of place here and now. It was exciting and fresh, and didn’t fit in with everything else that was around at the time. It was some of the most exciting pop music available.
While Mutya, Siobhan and Keisha have all said there is to be no reunion of the original trio now that they’re all out of the Sugababes stable, it would nevertheless be most interesting to hear what they would come up with if they did.
The problem with the ‘new’ version of the act, to me anyway, is that it now looks and sounds like every other cookie-cutter pop act, and that’s a shame. The Sugababes always had much more fire in them than the watered-down karaoke act that now bears their name. So come on girls, how about getting back together, just once, and showing everyone how those songs should be sung.
