No more Pirates for Gore

April 11, 2009 by Clark

Gore Verbinski, director of the first three installments of the hugely successful Pirates of the Carribean movie series starring Johnny Depp, has pulled out of directing the next part of the franchise. Following in the wake of Keira Knightley refusing to reprise her role as Elizabeth Swann, Gore Verbinski stated; “I had a fantastic time bringing ‘Pirates’ to life, and I am eternally grateful to Jerry, Johnny and the rest of the creative and production team. I’m looking forward to all of us crossing paths again in the future.”

You can’t really blame him for wanting to move on. Despite the huge success of the films, each one is a gargantuan undertaking, and the initial trilogy seemed like a nice, complete story, so a fourth seems a bit like overkill to me.

The movies, that have taken 1.7 billion pounds at the box office alone, are to continue when the fourth film goes into production in 2010.

Johnny Depp is returning as the heroic Jack Sparrow, but it seems that Orlando Bloom will also be pulling out of the series too. So are we in for an all new cast aside from Johnny Depp? This could be interesting, but it could also be a huge mistake.
