La Roux Debut Is Our Pop Album of The Year
December 31, 2009 by Clark
2009 has been quite an odd year for pop. Ignoring the mindless drivel spat out by reality TV shows, you could actually find some decent music about.
Albums such as ‘Lung’ by Florence and the Machine and ‘Speech Therapy’ by Speeche Debelle have been strong contenders for our favourite album of 2009, but that accolade must go to the debut album by La Roux, namely, erm, ‘La Roux‘.
While there have been many acts trying to get the 80s synthpop sound just right, nobody has been able to get it so spot on as the La Roux duo have.
They did go out of their way in the studio to make every bit of the album sound as 80s as possible, but they also included some actual songs, and that’s the key here.
Tunes like ‘Bulletproof’ and ‘In For The Kill’ have become firm favourites with the CelebrityStarJournal staff, and are sure to be much loved for a long time to come.
Where La Roux go next with their music is anyone’s guess, as the synthpop nostalgia scene will no doubt disappear soon. Until then, this is the best around, and our album of the year.
