Keeping the magic alive

February 24, 2009 by Clark

After the initial flush of romance that ushers in any relationship, it can sometimes be easy to take each other for granted. This can lead to apathy and, in many cases, the eventual breakdown of the relationship as you drift apart. It is very important that you both make an effort to maintain things between the two of you, and that you keep the magic alive by remembering to appreciate your significant other.

Remember the early days of you being together as a couple? Think back, and think of what first attracted you to each other, those things that first caught your attention. Your loved one still has those attributes. They are the same person, and so are you. Older and slightly wiser (I actually typed ‘wider’ by mistake just then- I guess either can apply!) you both may be, but you are still entitled to flush at the sight of your partner. There are many ways you can keep things starry-eyed for the both of you.

You could relive the early days of your time together- if not in the same place, then at least with similar activities. Go to a show, a restaurant, a film, a park, anywhere that will help you share special memories of your time together. Reminiscing should not be limited to Valentine’s Day! Perhaps you could book a day off work together, and just stay in, curtains drawn, talking about the past, present and future from the warmth of each other’s arms. Togetherness doesn’t have to be expensive.

The important thing is to think more about each other than superficial, material things. The people involved in the relationship are much more important than status symbols or indeed anything else. Appreciate each other, treat each other with respect and affection, and the magic will never fade.
